Jeff: Hi there, and welcome to RECOM's Powerful Podcast, where we discuss new topics and products. I'm Jeff Deutschman, your product moderator. From a quarter watt up to 1,000 watts, whether the power is required for an industrial setting, a new IoT gadget, or a high-end medical-grade device, RECOM has you covered.
On this episode, we'll be discussing a new and exciting power supply, the RACM1200-V. Peter, what can you tell us about this one?
Peter: Well, Jeff, this is a 9″ x 4″ 1200W AC/DC converter that was designed by our RECOM Vienna team. These engineers are experts in this power arena and have produced a really high-performance product.
Jeff: Fantastic. So, this part can actually supply up to 1200W, correct?
Peter: Yeah, so it can support a peak load of 1200W under the right conditions. In order to get that maximum power output, customers will need to incorporate a fan for forced air cooling.
Jeff: Great, and this part can actually power the fan, correct?
Peter: Exactly. So, it's equipped with a 12V smart fan output to drive air into the unit. Customers don't need to worry about adding another power supply for that.
Jeff: And what about fanless operation? How does the power look there?
Peter: Fanless operation is excellent and where this product really stands above the competition. With 120V AC mains input, customers can continuously support an 800W load with baseplate cooling alone, so no fan is required.
Jeff: Okay, so with higher input voltage, the power capabilities actually increase.
Peter: Exactly. For customers with access to mains voltage greater than 172V, a 1000W continuous load is possible with just base plate cooling.
Jeff: And what about temperature derating? Does this impact the power levels?
Peter: The temperature capabilities are also very good for this power supply. It can output that 800W load with temperatures up to 50°C.
Jeff: Fantastic, Peter. I imagine this is partly due to a strong efficiency.
Peter: That's right, Jeff. So, efficiency is anywhere between 92 to 95%. It's also important to have a good power factor when we're talking about these high power products and ours is right at one.
Jeff: Excellent. Let's talk about some of the other features.
Peter: Sure. So, in addition to the main output, this part is also equipped with an independent 5V 1A standby output. It has remote on-off capabilities, a remote sense to account for voltage drop, and LED signals for monitoring.
Jeff: And I see that it's also designed for modifications. Can you expand on this?
Peter: Of course, we'll be able to modify the firmware to meet customers’ requirements better. Many features can be adjusted. One example would be the power limit. These simple modifications will come with a 250-piece MLQ.
Jeff: Great, if anyone listening wants more detail on the firmware adjustments, feel free to contact Peter for more information at the techsupportamericas@recom-power.com email. To wrap up, let's talk about certifications Peter.
Peter: So, this converter will be covered by 60601 for medical applications, 62368 for industrial customers, and also its coming with a CB report. EMC performance is also very strong and is compliant to EN55032 Class B emissions.
Jeff: Sounds like an excellent converter that will support a wide variety of customers and applications. Peter, thank you so much. Well, that wraps it up for another episode of RECOM's Powerful Podcast. Be sure to listen next time when we delve into the pros of another RECOM topic.
