자동화

Automation is a universal term that includes many different processes, but is generally applied to any technology that uses sensors, actuators and feedback to make a system that operates without continuous human control. It can be as simple as a thermostat or as complex as the control room of a nuclear power station, but in almost all cases, an isolated local power supply is required to supply the sensor-feedback-actuator control system.

The requirements for power supplies for automation are that it should be isolated so that cross-interference, ground loops or potential differences do not interfere with the automatic control system. A good example is a DC motor speed controller; the DC supply is used to both power the motor and the speed controller, but the sensitive controller circuit needs a low noise, isolated, lower voltage supply. Using an isolated, regulated DC/DC converter solves the problems of voltage conversion, electrical noise isolation and immunity to power dips and surges with just one part.

Energy harvesting is a technique used to collect ambient energy (light, heat, radio waves or movement) and use it to charge a capacitor or battery. This energy can then be used to power an off-grid sensor or transmitter.
