Switching regulators are high power density, compact voltage regulators with extremely high efficiencies of up to 97%. The R78 series are 3-pin THT replacements for 78xx series linear regulators. The R78 series are one of our most popular product series, being drop-in replacements for TO-220 regulators so the efficiency of legacy power supply boards can be upgraded from around 60% to well over 90% without needing to re-spin the circuit board or fit any heatsinking. The wired versions are designed to be used provide local regulated and short-circuit proof power supplies without the need of any external components or even a circuit board.
