Gray: Welcome to RECOM's Powerful Podcast, where we discuss new topics and products. I'm Gray Carpenter, your product moderator for all your power supply needs. From a quarter watt up to 3kW, whether the power is required for an industrial setting, a new Internet of Things gadget, or a high-end medical-grade device, RECOM has you covered. RECOM, we power your products.
In this episode, we will be discussing the new RACPRO1 series, which includes high-reliability three-phase AC power supplies and electronic fuses, aka, e-fuses. Louis, what can you tell me about how RECOM has developed this new game-changing product series?

Louis: Hi, Gray. The RACPRO1 products are all DIN rail mountable and have been developed with aims to deliver a high-efficiency and high-reliability solution with premium features in the slimmest package size possible. Reliability, efficiency, and size are some of the most critical features for industrial automation, which RECOM has set the new benchmark for what is possible.

Gray: Let's dive into the new power supplies showcased in the RACPRO1 family. Could you give an overview of the basic power specifications?

Louis: Absolutely. There are three different power levels, 240W, 480W, and 960W. The parts are named RACPRO1-T240, RACPRO1-T480, and RACPRO1-T960, respectively to the power level. These all come with a boost power rating of 150% max load for 5 seconds. The input is three-phase, 320 to 575VAC. Output versions are either set at 24V or 48V but can be adjusted up to 28V or to 56V.

Gray: Basic specs aside, what would be the premium features that set these power supplies apart from others with similar power ratings?

Louis: The most critical would be the slim shape and high efficiency, but there are many other important features, such as an easy tool-less installation with push-in wire cage clamp connectors, a high return voltage immunity, an easy fuse tripping feature, a real-time output load bar display, extended surge immunity, and the ability for parallel usage to drive higher loads or add system redundancy.

Gray: What exactly is meant by return voltage immunity?

Louis: That's a great question. When powering a load such as a motor, there could be a backflow to the output of the power supply. The return voltage immunity is the ability to cope with this voltage. The 24V output has return voltage immunity to 35V, and the 48V output has immunity to 63V.

Gray: Makes sense that a premium product would come with the ability to withstand this higher voltage. There are many technical features to consider here, but of course, saving panel space is important. What are the widths of these parts?

Louis: The RACPRO1-T240 is 43mm wide, RACPRO1-T480 is 52mm wide, and the RACPRO1-T960 is 80mm wide.

Gray: 80mm wide and 960W capacity, that's incredible. How can this be so compact?

Louis: A lot of this comes down to smart layout and component selection by the RECOM engineering team. Having a high efficiency also plays a key role here. The RACPRO1-T960 has best-in-class efficiency up to 96.9%. Not only does this save energy and lower the power bill, this also means less heat is generated by the power supply. Therefore, a smaller heat sink and less surface area for thermal dissipation is needed.

Gray: Also with less heat generation, the reliability of the components is improved since heat is one of the main determinants to power supply longevity.

Louis: Exactly. There are a lot of specifications and features that go into delivering the best-in-class DIN-rail power supply. However, the reliability and efficiency must still be at the center of attention.

Gray: Excellent. Thank you, Louis. The new RACPRO1 series seems to be a cornerstone for efficient and reliable power. I am sure these will keep all systems running for industrial automation. Well, that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to tune in next time, where we delve into another RECOM topic and the benefits it can provide.
