An EV charging station requires power levels within the kilowatt range, and therefore it is critical to have a safe, reliable, and secure system design. However, the ideal solution varies depending on the type of EV charging application.

Public EV charging stations (EVCS) call for higher power and are more complex than their domestic charging counterparts. An EVCS overall system's security and reliability therefore take precedence over a low BOM.

This is especially true for these types of systems, as it requires the use of multiple power supplies or bus voltages, as well as a variety of isolated and non-isolated DC/DC converters. For EVCS applications requiring an isolated supply for the AC power monitoring circuit, 2W DC/DC converters like the RKZE-1212S/H with 4kVDC isolation and operation from –40°C to 80°C and no derating are ideal.

For the EVCS designs that include a data modem, a non-isolated buck converter like the fully protected RPL-3.0 with an integrated inductor and adjustable outputs would be an ideal power supply.
