RECOM Unlocks Discrete Power Design

RECOM SMD transformer with 1.5kV–5kVAC isolation for DC/DC converter designs
New SMD transformer solutions available now.

With a new range of Power ICs and SMD transformers, RECOM enables customers to create their own discrete DC/DC isolated power supplies. The range includes transformers compatible with flyback, push-pull and full bridge drivers in the power range from 1W to 15W. These standard sub-miniature SMD transformers cover the most common input/output voltage combinations and isolation withstand voltages up to 5000VAC/min. They will withstand a peak reflow temperature of up to 250°C for up to 10s and can withstand two times reflow process.

The RMR-xxx series are sub miniature 1W/2W toroidal SMD transformers designed for push-pull or full bridge topology transformer drivers, with isolation voltages from 1.5kVDC/min up to 4.5kVDC/min. The exceptions are the RMR-028 and RMR-031 parts which are high isolation SMD transformers with enhanced 5kVAC/min (7000kVDC/min) isolation voltage and wider creepage and clearance separations. They are designed to match RECOM’s range of RVP-xxx push-pull and full-bridge transformer drivers.

The RBE-xxx series are 6W to 15W bobbin-type SMD transformers designed for flyback topology transformer drivers, with isolation voltages from 1.5kVDC/min up to 6kVDC/min. or 4.5kVAC/min. They are designed to match RECOM’s range of RVPW-xxx flyback transformer drivers. The RPE-021 is also a bobbin-type SMD transformer, but with enhanced 6000VDC/min isolation withstand voltage and wider creepage and clearance separations. The RPE-026 is specially designed for bidirectional battery cell charging/discharging in conjunction with the RPSV013 bidirectional PWM controller/synchronous rectifier IC.

“For over 50 years, RECOM has been a technology leader in DC/DC modules, a position only maintained by a constant flow of new ideas and continual improvements in quality, reliability and performance. Now, for the first time, RECOM is offering you both IC discrete solutions as well as complete DC/DC modules. There is no need for compromise any more. You can choose a discrete driver IC + transformer component solution where you decide the layout and component positioning and where you also benefit from lower pricing as the volume increases – just like any other SMD component.” comments Sven Krumpel, Project Manager IC & Solutions, RECOM.
